Industrial Lighting Magic [link]
Adam Chilson, instructor [link]
April 26, 2008 - 10am-7pm
Featured Model is SCAR! [link]
Our first workshop with Adam on March 29th SOLD OUT - so we are following up and now accepting registrations for “Industrial Lighting Magic,” the second in the series.
Images from their first workshop can be found here [link]
“Industrial Lighting Magic” is an intermediate to advanced workshop, focusing on the theme of crafting and lighting metal-based industrial sets. Adam will be bringing to the workshop a number of metal components specifically featured in his portfolio images. Participants will gain insight into the physical components involved in creating sets in this style, as well as learning principles of effective photographic lighting for the industrial/metal theme.
Topics covered will include:
**The basics of lighting metal: Utilizing inherent reflective qualities, avoiding pitfalls, and minimizing hot spots.
**Capturing the textures of metal: Including diamond plate, flat steel, chains, expanded steel, and perforated metal.
**The “mood” of metal: From bright and shining to rust and grunge, and use of gels to color metal.
**Crafting metal sets: The use of metal components both as backgrounds and as means of generating shadows.
**Lighting a model in the set, both separately and integrated with metal set elements.
The first part of the day will cover discussion and demonstration. The second part of the day will consist of shooting opportunities for all participants with the featured model (TBA) on set. Registration includes promotional model release for portfolio use of images shot at the workshop.
Registration is limited to 8 photographers. Fee is $350 for the full day, and must be paid in advance. For complete workshop details and registration information, please visit the workshop web site [link] and/or contact the studio at 866-334-4364, or email studio@dm-gremlin.com.

Ok, the reason for the name dropping above is because of the Studio event this past friday, D.M. Gremlin Studio’s in Long Beach, California Open House. These are the individuals that really made it fun and a great long… LONG day L()L but I am happy I went. You will soon see a couple images for as I’m done writing this I will be updating with a few.
But first, boy do I need a pro account L()L would be so much nicer to see thumbs stead of links L()L 6-;. (Thanks again to Wynnesome for teaching me how to post Icons L()L in my basic account.) (UPDATE!! Thanks to a Private Donation, I have a Subscribed account for the next couple months, and OMG I fell in love with it already L()L. As you can see I have thusly pimped out my journal L()L )Anyway, Monday started the week, went down the hill to San Bernardino to get some makeup and stuff. I really needed to get extra blood L()L, well the Zesty Mint kind 6-;. Tuesday followed up with a shoot for Aprils Desktop Calendar image [link] . Hala K [link] is the model and IvyPearl [link] did the makeup. I was lucky enough to do the hair L()L. Video coming soon of it. It was a really fun time, though it did last a lot longer then I expected but I also didn’t expect to be as picky as I was with the makeup L()L. I think Pearl at one or fifteen points wanted to strangle me L()L.
Wensday was a recovery day,Thursday was coursework. I am proud to say that I could have blown off the assignment on due on Thursday and still gotten an A in the course. But I completed it on time and let me tell you how pretty it is to see my grades for the class and there is only A’s straight down the list. Now only 9 more classes to go. 6-;
Friday was the trip to Long Beach. Of course the day dragged on because I had to wait for my ride, but no worries it came soon enough. I carpooled with Ken McFarland [link] a Photographer up here in the Desert.
We arrived and Lisa was already hard to work painting the model for the night. Im not sure who it was exactly I have horrible memory for people I only meet once. (Thanks to Wynnesome I now know it is/was Conundra.

I really did enjoy her personality and look I just couldn’t remember her name L()L.) Anyway, I hung around and watched people come in and stuff. A group from DPChallenge [link] came by. DPC is a photography challenge website, its fun and frustrating and stuff but I keep going back so I must like the abuse. One point during the night Henry, the Studio Owners Parrot got to sit on my bigold honky shoulder. It was funny because he started snapping at everyone while there L()L. He liked me though so must have sensed that I’m a Pirate or something L()L.
After that fun, I started setting up stuff for my images, ya know the blood and dark and crazy and stuff. While I was shooting the first set, ‘Bunny Love’ With QuietChild and Frenzy

I was literally tripping over other photographers that were shooting over my shoulder and behind my knees. It was really quite funny and I am very curious as to how their images came out. I was using a single light off to the side, however they were using onboard or raised flashes when shooting so the mood of the images should be totally different. Yet, I think what surprised me the most is that so many wanted to shoot the blood L()L.
After that was finished, I hung around more, just wandering showing off my portfolio and stuff. Then set up for another set and by this time the crowd was thinning so I didn’t have as many shooting around me, This set was with QuietChild and Hourglass.

(Most where in the back studio most the time with the bodypainted models.) When the night ended, the body’s of some strewn throughout the studio I did a set with the Wynnesome.

I personally really enjoy the makeup I did for it. Something nice and simple but dark and bloody. I believe we were able to create some really strong images.
Somewhere in the middle of all that, NevaehLleh wandering into my little area and we created a couple images

Saturday, I arrived back at the house about 4:30am, had something to eat, (cause like a fool all I put in my system for the past 14 hours was a couple bottles of water), then crashed out. I was out most all the day and then part of Sunday, today. But I did manage to relax some and get some images edited and stuff. So sit back relax, tell everyone I listed above that they Rock and check out a couple new images.
Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease.

There was an open studio event at D.M.Gremlins Productions in Long Beach late last week. It was a last minute invite and I almost didn’t go. However the event was terrific I have tons of fun and hope to go back soon. Talking with Wynnesome who operates and runs the studio said there will be another open studio towards the end of March. They have been remodeling to create a second studio, so last week we were able to shoot into the rubble. Here is a peek of what I captured. Look for more coming soon to the .Gallerys. Some images are NSFW, so you will have to register to see the larger versions.
