Some Images

Ok, let me see if I can explain some of these pieces.  They should be easy to understand but here I go, From Left to Right, Top to Bottom.

This twisted Self Portrait is an experiment with photoshop.  Playing around with features to see what I could do.  It actually has no detail work done, only manipulation through the features within.  The second piece is the same thing only because of the style of image it came out a bit differently however I am very happy with how it came out and wish I could duplicate that processes.  The third image in the top row is a current self-portrait.  I have been losing weight and you can really tell in my face and stuff.

Next row is an experimental self portrait and the second a twisted image I did of a model I shot years ago.  The third image is first of three, a Dirt Devil that I well someone else drove through, I was passenger.  It was great because I was tracking it across the prairie and next thing I know it crossed the street right as we where on it and it was AWESOME!!

The third row is a distant shot of the Great Sand Dunes, the ones that were on Fire in here in Colorado.  We had gone to Hooper and on our return this is what was seen.  It was a great day.  The last image of this row is me sitting on ‘The Chair’ out at Bishops Castle, in Wetmore, Colorado.  If you ever get the chance check it out.

The fourth & Fifth rows are images of the Bishops Castle.  Can you believe this was built by a single man by hand?  The blue flower was found down the road a bit from the Castle when we stopped for a picnic lunch. (-;

The Sixth row are some graphic designs I was playing around with.  I really enjoy the middle one which I named “Cold Hearted”

Lastly, I was thinking of a new name, 2010 Graphics and Photography is what I was thinking about.  So I Designed a logo. However Old habits die hard and I played around with a new APG Digital Visual.  Let me know what you think.

Sharp & In Focus

How important is it for you to have a photograph that is ‘Sharp and In Focus’?

I have been reading some posts made by photographers who do not understand why a photograph should be ‘Sharp and In Focus’.

I believe the subject should be ‘Sharp and In Focus’ and the background/foreground items can be so blurred that you can not make them out.  However, the falloff decrease of sharp to blurred should show a progression.

There are times where a ‘blurred’ photograph is acceptable.  This is when it is clearly understood that the subject is blurred and/or the style is as such.  Yet, it is not to say just because some fool with a camera takes a crappy image that they can call it art because its blurred.  Wrong answer.

You look at the most popular photographs around.  You will notice the subject always has great clarity and is in sharp focus.  The eye needs this focus to locate the subject.  It needs the focus to understand what is being seen.  The Audience wants to be connected to the photograph and if they cannot figure out what it is, or it is so completely blurred/ out of focus they have no clue…. it doesn’t work.

But I will say, if this is your style and you shoot for yourself. Have fun with it.  But do not get down on someone for ‘not-seeing’ what you are trying to express.  Because as a photographer if I have to ‘explain’ the piece, then I did not do my job.
